Constitution Day
Ben's Government Site - A great site for kids to explain many facets of government. This link goes straight to information about the Constitution.
White House for Kids Constitution Quiz - A comprehensive site about the White House, as well as information about government. This link goes to a quiz about the Constitution.
The Constitution for Kids - Get a simple explanation about the Constitution from this site.
Save the Bill of Rights! - A fun, interactive game to learn about the 1st ten amendments to the Constitution.

Halloween
Carve a Pumpkin Online - Much less messier than the real thing!

PBS Halloween - Fun and games with your friends from your favorite shows- Arthur, Reading Rainbow, etc.
Trick or Treats - A great site from Hershey's. Great clip art, games, party ideas, etc. Check out the Parent/Teacher Resources.
Elections
Election 2008 (Parade Magazine Sites)

Scholastic News - Mock elections, "You're the Candidate" - lets kids map out a campaign strategy and choose issues that are important to them. Click here to vote.

Time for Kids - "Electoral College Craze" game - asks questions about each state; kids win its electoral votes if they answer correctly.
Democracy Project - Interactive site from PBS. Be President for the Day, What Does Government Affect Me?, and Step Inside the Voting Booth.
E-lections - This is an amazing, interactive site where you can pretend you're a Presidential candidate. Pick your party and create your platform.
Ben's Guide for Kids - An explanation of the election process for President/Vice-President, Senators, and Representatives.
Presidential Election Slide Show - This is great for younger kids. Just a few sentences on each page. horses, etc.
Veteran's Day VA Kids - A very good site to learn about veterans and Veteran's Day.
Thanksgiving
Plimoth Plantation - Outstanding site that shares the real story behind Thanksgiving. Interactive, sound, video, VERY COOL!
Billy Bear's Thanksgiving Page - Online games, crafts, and pages to color. (Will not work at school.)
The First Thanksgiving - Learn all about the Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving from Scholastic.
National Geographic Kids- Learn about Thanksgiving Traditions
December Holidays
Real Snowflakes - Look at some super close-up views of real snowflakes. Beautiful!

Create a Snowflake - Use the online scissors to make a snowflake, without all the paper mess!

SnowDays - Another snowflake making site.
Penguin Writing - Type in your name and the penguin will spell it out in the snow. (Very quick and cute!)
Wacky Web Tales - Fill in the blanks with the correct part of speech and create a silly story!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Timeline - This is a concise timeline created by a 2nd grade class.
"I Have a Dream" - Listen to the entire famous speech delivered in 1963 in Washington, D.C. The text of the speech is also displayed.
The Seattle Times - Great site with pictures, info, and a short quiz about MLK and the civil rights movement. Listen to a 1 minute segment of the "I Have a Dream" speech.
